Maybe I'm doing it wrong

[Note: This post should not be read as a snarky commentary about how other people handle their blogs. The only commentary is about how I am.]

I blew by my 100th post sometime in July. I think I was supposed to make a bigger deal about that. Maybe I should have given away a free microwave oven or something.

My site counter ticked by both 1000 and then 2000 hits at some point. At the moment, it reads 2160. I shudder to think how many of those hits are just me checking to see if anyone is reading.

I feel like I used to do a much better job of participating in Spin Cycles for Sprite's Keeper and Fiction Friday for Jeanne at the Raisin Chronicles and those relationship-building type activities. (OK - I've almost never done memes - but I hate lists!) Lately, I only seem to post if there's a picture of me looking ridiculous that I can include.

Of course, I have been dividing my attention with the He Read/She Read posts - and reading books definitely takes away from my writing time. But I intend to spend a bit more quality time here at Speaking In Caps - before all my loyal readers find better ways to spend their time.

I'll get it right sooner or later.

Take care.

If you get stuck, I highly recommend posting pictures of hot Asian women. There's just not enough of that in the bloggysphere.

Don't worry honey. We'll be here when you are ready. Use Stat Counter to check your readers, then you won't show up.

It is hard to keep up with all the fun things to do here, when we have a real life to deal with.
Don't worry about not doing memes and all that. Just keep posting!
Hello to MAW!

Sometimes real life just gets busy and something has to suffer for it. Better to not post for a few days or fall back on a picture then try to come up with something half-assed to fill the space. Just look at how often I post pictures.

Wait, that's more lack of talent then busy lifestyle. Bad example.

It's okay, I'll still check up on you. Your blog is definitely worth the wait.

It is discouraging at times but then a good comment comes in or one from a new reader and you get that positive feedback kick.

Yeah I look at the stats but really the comments are what I like.

Oh my traffic didn't pick up until I started connecting with other bloggers like you. Also, I joined blog catalog. I don't remember if you are part of that. A blog community that big has it's problems with people looking for click fraud but there are some very interesting bloggers there too.

don't give up
There's no crying in blogging.

Jess: You are so right. Thanks for hanging in there.

Grant: Are you occupying the same Internet that I am traversing? 'Cause I just googled "hot Asian women" and...hold on, I think the Internet cops are at my office door.

Pamela: Sure. I left a comment at your house to that effect. Now I just have to acquire and actually read the book.

MAW: Use Stat Counter? Are you nuts?! How the hell do you think the counter got to that number in the first place?!!?

Dedene: It can be hard to devote appropriate amounts of attention to real life and...e-life (?) at the same time. But the struggle is a worthy one. Thanks for your encouragement.

Cap'n: You sell yourself far short, dude. But thanks for the good advice. How's the "Zombie" book coming?

Ellie: Thanks for the kind words. I feel the same way about Distracting Minutia. Which I need to read ASAP.

lisleman: I did hook up with blog catalog - although I'm sure that I don't leverage the connection in a helpful way. I don't think about my stats as much as the post may seem to indicate. I think comments are more important too - and I try my best to respond to each and every one. I think I would feel just as comflicted if I lost the time/ability to respond in that way. But not necessarily a bad problem to have. Thanks also for the encouragement.
